Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village
Cottages in a tropical garden sloping down to the Arabian Sea
An Ayurvedic retreat in a tropical garden by the sea
Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village is located on the coast south of Kovalam, approximately 21 km from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Part of the Somatheeram Ayurveda Group, it combines traditional Ayurvedic treatment with the beautiful surroundings of a tropical garden, coconut palms and the immediate proximity of the sea.
Unlike a conventional hotel resort, Manaltheeram is designed as a small tropical village. Individual cottages and traditional-style houses are scattered across a gently sloping garden and connected by pathways and steps. Red brick, wood, palm-thatched roofs and simple Kerala architecture give the entire property a natural and informal character.
Ayurvedic treatment
At the heart of the resort is the Soma Manaltheeram Ayurvedic Hospital & Research Centre. Your stay begins with a consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, who prepares an individual treatment programme according to your constitution and current state of health. The progress of the treatment is monitored by the medical team, while individual therapies are carried out by trained Ayurvedic therapists.
Manaltheeram offers both rejuvenation and regeneration programmes and more intensive cleansing therapies based on the principles of Panchakarma. Depending on individual indications, treatment may include oil massages, Shirodhara, herbal and oil applications, steam therapies and other traditional Kerala Ayurvedic procedures.
Ayurveda here is not an additional wellness service but the central purpose of the stay. Treatments, herbal preparations, diet, yoga and meditation are brought together within one individually designed therapeutic programme.
Tropical garden, pool and sea
One of Manaltheeram's greatest strengths is its location. The lush tropical garden slopes down towards the coast, and the Arabian Sea can be seen from many parts of the property. A sandy beach lies directly below the resort.
The grounds also include an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the sea, relaxation areas beneath the palms and pathways winding between the individual cottages. Although Manaltheeram is a fully established Ayurvedic treatment centre, its surroundings retain the relaxed atmosphere of a tropical seaside retreat.
Ayurvedic cuisine, yoga and meditation
Meals form an integral part of the treatment programme. Manaltheeram follows the principle of dosha-specific nutrition, meaning that the doctor's recommendations influence not only the treatments but also the choice of suitable foods. The restaurant is open towards the tropical surroundings, and some dining takes place outdoors overlooking the garden and the sea.
Yoga forms a regular part of the Ayurvedic programmes. Practice takes place in a spacious open-sided yoga hall built in traditional Kerala style, surrounded by greenery. Classes accommodate different levels of experience, and meditation is also incorporated into the programmes.
Character of the centre
Manaltheeram is particularly suitable if you are looking for authentic Ayurvedic treatment without spending several weeks in an environment that feels like a clinic. The Ayurvedic centre provides professional medical and therapeutic facilities, while the accommodation and communal areas retain the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional Kerala coastal village.
Compared with the more luxurious AyurSoma, Manaltheeram is simpler, more natural and more rustic. Its particular charm lies in its tropical garden, individual cottages, traditional architecture and close connection with the sea. For a longer rejuvenation or Panchakarma stay, it offers a very appealing combination of serious Ayurvedic care and the genuine atmosphere of coastal Kerala.
