AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat
Palace-style luxury with serious, medically supervised Ayurveda
Royal Ayurveda on the shores of the Arabian Sea
AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat is the most luxurious centre in our portfolio and the flagship retreat of the renowned Somatheeram Ayurveda Group. It was created as the group's premium concept, combining authentic, medically supervised Ayurveda with the accommodation and services of a luxury resort.
What makes AyurSoma exceptional, however, is not simply its level of comfort. Somatheeram Ayurveda Group dates back to 1985, when its founder Baby Mathew pioneered the concept of an "Ayurveda hospital in a resort ambience", bringing serious traditional Ayurvedic treatment into an attractive resort environment. Over the following decades the group received numerous awards, including five National Tourism Awards from the Government of India and six Kerala State Government Awards, and has welcomed guests from around the world.
Authentic Ayurvedic treatment, not a hotel spa
The luxurious surroundings are not a substitute for serious treatment. AyurSoma operates as an Ayurvedic hospital within a resort environment, continuing the medical tradition developed by the Somatheeram group. The centre has a team of 15 Ayurvedic doctors and more than 80 professionally trained therapists, with resident doctors available around the clock and treatment programmes individually designed for each guest.
The centre offers classical Panchakarma and detoxification programmes, Rasayana and rejuvenation therapies, stress management and weight reduction programmes, anti-ageing treatments and programmes addressing a range of chronic conditions. Ayurvedic medicines and herbal preparations are produced in-house, using plant ingredients sourced in part from the group's own organic herbal gardens.
Behind the impressive architecture lies a very traditional Ayurvedic practice: treatments performed simultaneously by two therapists, herbal bolus therapies, medicated oil applications, Shirodhara and other classical procedures. The treatment rooms are intentionally more functional and traditional than the luxurious hotel areas.
Ayurvedic cuisine and resort facilities
AyurSoma serves vegetarian Ayurvedic cuisine adapted to the individual constitutions of Vata, Pitta and Kapha and to the recommendations of the physicians. The culinary repertoire includes more than 250 dishes, from traditional Kerala cuisine to international vegetarian meals, with ingredients sourced in part from the resort's own gardens. Two restaurants offer views towards the ocean.
The resort experience is further enhanced by a large infinity swimming pool, relaxation areas, a 24-hour coffee shop and extensive communal facilities. The pool, surrounded by tropical greenery and traditional palace-style buildings, is one of the most characteristic settings within the retreat.
Yoga overlooking the sea
Yoga and meditation form part of the therapeutic concept rather than being offered simply as additional hotel activities. AyurSoma has several dedicated spaces for practice, including two indoor yoga halls, outdoor practice areas and an open platform overlooking the sea. The daily programme includes morning Pranayama and meditation as well as yoga sessions at different levels throughout the day.
Who is AyurSoma for?
We recommend AyurSoma if you want a genuine Ayurvedic treatment programme without compromising on first-class accommodation, privacy and comfort. It is particularly well suited to discerning travellers, couples and guests accustomed to a higher hotel standard who nevertheless expect serious medical supervision and authentic Ayurvedic therapies. In the highest categories, treatment can even take place in a private therapy room within your own villa or suite.
AyurSoma brings together three qualities rarely found at this level in a single place: the long-standing reputation of one of India's pioneering Ayurvedic resort groups, genuine medical and therapeutic infrastructure, and the extraordinary setting of a Kerala palace-style retreat overlooking the Arabian Sea.
