Four Ayurvedic centres on the coast of Kerala

Somatheeram Ayurveda Complex consists of four individual Ayurvedic centres located on the Arabian Sea coast south of Kovalam in Kerala. Somatheeram Ayurveda Village, Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village, AyurSoma and Soma Palmshore belong to the same group and share a long tradition of Ayurvedic treatment, medical supervision, individually designed treatment programmes, Ayurvedic cuisine, yoga and meditation.

The history of the group dates back to 1985, when Baby Mathew founded Somatheeram with the then innovative idea of combining an Ayurvedic hospital with the pleasant environment of a holiday resort. Over the years, this concept developed into today's group of centres, which share the same Ayurvedic philosophy and medical background while differing in their setting, style of accommodation and price level.

Ayurveda as the main purpose of your stay

Although the individual centres have the atmosphere and facilities of seaside resorts, their primary focus is Ayurvedic treatment. The residential programmes include accommodation, daily treatments according to an individual treatment plan, regular consultations with an Ayurvedic doctor, Ayurvedic vegetarian meals, yoga and meditation. The exact course of treatment and selection of therapies may be adjusted according to your health condition and the doctor's recommendations.

The programmes range from classical Panchakarma and rejuvenation stays to specialised programmes focusing on weight management, spine and neck care, stress management, anti-ageing and certain skin conditions. The centres use a wide range of traditional Kerala Ayurvedic therapies.

The Kerala coast and traditional architecture

All four centres share an attractive location in tropical southern Kerala close to the sea. Somatheeram and AyurSoma are situated on the hillside above the coast, while the different properties offer varying degrees of contact with tropical gardens, the beach and views of the Arabian Sea.

The architecture also differs considerably between the centres. Alongside simpler contemporary rooms are individual cottages built with natural materials, traditional wooden Kerala houses with verandas and period furniture, and, at AyurSoma, more elaborate architecture inspired by historic Kerala palaces and temples.

From simple accommodation to a luxury Ayurvedic resort

The great advantage of the complex is the opportunity to choose from several very different environments while retaining the same overall approach to Ayurvedic treatment. Some guests prefer a simpler stay close to the sea, others the traditional atmosphere of Kerala cottages, while others look for the high level of comfort offered by AyurSoma.

• Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village has a more intimate seaside character, with individual cottages scattered throughout a tropical garden sloping down towards the sea.
• Somatheeram Ayurveda Village is a well-established Ayurvedic resort with different types of individual cottages and accommodation inspired by traditional Kerala architecture.
• AyurSoma is the luxury option within the group, with spacious rooms and suites designed in a Kerala palace style. Its highest categories even include a private treatment room and a private pool.
